Meggy's Presentation Quilt

Satin and Cotton Presentation Quilt- Meggy's Quilt
Got to admit, this pic is older than I thought.  I posted it for Meggy's dad since I figured he didn't have this one, and now little Meggy is almost grown up.  I wanted to share it because I made it with some hand-stitching and scraps of ivory and white satin, little rosettes, ribbon and lace.  Meggy must be thinking, "I sure would like to eat these little roses."

Frame Baby Quilt Top

Today's post is a baby quilt top, made with the most joyous fabrics which were left over from a big quilt that I made.  In making the big quilt, I picked out the materials to use, and bought them for that purpose.  For this quilt, my goal was to clean up the scraps off of the floor by my sewing machine.

I don't think this quilt pattern has a name.  In the 1700s on this continent, quilts were sometimes framed in a single border of chintz.  But it is more like the log cabin patterns of the mid 1800s to strip-piece a quilt "in the round" or framing a center.  It differs, because the log cabin pattern repeats in smaller multiple blocks.

So, this top is for sale, $50 in baby bed size.  Or add $200 and it can be batted, backed and machine quilted by me.  It will be listed for sale at Oklahoma Food Cooperative soon, or on etsy at Island Retreat.

Teaching Our Baby to Read

When I saw the ad for teaching babies to read on TV, my granny genes kicked in, and we ordered up a big box of the most fun early childhood development tools.  It goes like this.  Baby Kai and his mommy watch the DVDs with words like "EYE" and then do interactive stuff.  Mom touches her eye and blinks and says eye.  Then she says eye and touches Kai's eye.  They say that the more senses we can involve in learning, the better and faster we learn.  Kai is a wonderful sweet little guy.  What could be more fun than babies reading?
